We had a super laid back Thanksgiving this year.
Daniel only had to work one of the four days.
Too short to make the trek to Kentucky, so we contemplated maybe taking a trip to Dallas.
Then we decided, instead, to just stay home.
We did some minimal decorating around the house...
Let me reiterate minimal decorating...we even used our plain, old, everyday dishes.
We had green beans, dressing, sweet potatoes, gravy, and smoked turkey (from a local BBQ joint), and chocolate chip/derby pie.
I did venture out a bit this year and decided to try my hand at homemade biscuits!
(Which ended up looking like light brown hockey pucks. Hmph.)
But honestly, my heart was just not in it this year.
Not being around our families, not having our little Shisi with us -- the day felt flat and empty.
(Kinda like those biscuits, come to think of it...)
I kept finding myself on the verge of tears.
Just going through the motions and feeling upset that I wasn't "savoring" this season of life.
I have so many things to be thankful for, and I am -- but, man, my heart is so heavy right now.
Luckily, I have the best little family.
On my lowest days, they bless my life with joy and laughter.
Goodness. I sure do love my two cornucopia headed turkeys.
